Regenerating Nature

Moora Plains, is a multi-generational cattle farm, situated along the banks of the Fitzroy River. This 3,500-hectare farm stripped bare of its natural vegetation, was financially and ecologically in decline. When Andrew and Megan Lawrie took over, there was nothing left to destroy.

So, they did something about it. Since 2005, they have turned it around. They have let trees grow and bio-diversity return. They protected the waterholes and waterways. And in that time, a new generation has formed a new relationship with the land.

They no longer only produce cattle; they produce ecology.

Tree coverage has increased from 2% to 48%. Down-stream, soil and chemical run-off no longer pollute the town’s water supply, or subsequently the Great Barrier Reef. This is all achieved while increasing the cattle count from 600 to 3000.

Stories like the Lawrie’s are increasingly common. Through love and resolve, people are finding solutions that benefit the family, the community, and the planet.
